Creating a new document in Adobe Indesign

There are a few ways to start a new document in Adobe Indesign CC 2017 just like all other Adobe programs. When launching Indesign you will be presented by your most recent documents that you have worked on.

Near these documents will be a button to start a new document or you can use the keyboard short cut Windows (ctrl+n) Mac (command+n).

After you choose to open a new document you will have the new document pop up box show up and give you settings to make your document fit exactly what you need. Below are what the panels can do to help you create the perfect document in Indesign.

Intent Panel

  • This panel allows you to choose from group to select presets of the most popular sizes.
  • It also will change your units of measurement to fit what preset you have chosen.
  • You can choose from Print, Website, and Mobile Presets.

Number of Pages

  • Number of pages allow you to choose how many pages you can add to an Indesign document.

Start Page

  • Start page allows you to choose where exactly your document will start at.

Facing Pages

  • Facing pages allows you to make your interior page face each other creating a spread.
  • This works best for when you are designing a print document that has a lot of interior pages.

Page Size

  • Page size allows you to choose what size your page is for your document.
  • You can choose a preset of the most common used or choose a custom size.

Orientation

  • Allows you to choose what orientation for your page from landscape and portrait

Columns

  • This option allows you to add columns to your documents on each page.
  • Columns allow you to organize the content on your document

Gutter

  • Gutters are the space between the columns,
