1.Tell us a little About yourself.

I’m an illustrator/concept artist now working as a freelance and also in a indie game studio, currently live in Indonesia. I like mechanical stuff, things like robots, vehicles, machinery, everything mechanical basically. This passion for machinery was established since my childhood, being influenced by numerous scifi toys and movies in forms of laser discs.

2.Describe your style.

My style… hmm.. I’m not sure if i can describe it correctly, but i think i have a love for realism or at least as close as i can get to it. I like using bright color in contrast with the dark background. Sometimes really cheerful colors like my adorabots project. In a nutshell, i do various feels and atmosphere but in the core, it’s revolving around mechanical stuff. Mechanize everything, make it looks sleek and solid!

3.What is your inspiration?

My Inspiration comes from as far as my early encounter with various scifi stuff like GI joe, Star Wars, Star Trek and various small die cast toys from Micromachines series. The 90s and 2000s was awesome to me as the game and movie industry began to rise, i saw a lot of concept art which i know today are made by many many highly skillful artists, getting me even more obsessed with concept art. Other than that, mechanical designers such as Daniel Simon, Junji Okubo and many other inspired me, Concept artist like Scott Robertson, Feng Zhu, Sparth, and many many more!!

4.What do you do when you have creative block?

I usually change my table position, move to another room, take a stroll, seeing stuff from real life. In my opinion, learning from your surrounding is the best way to understand the world and that in turns help make your creation more believable and better. But when those fails, i usually play games or watch movie. Inspiration will come in time… But mind the deadlines!

5.What is your favorite work from another artist?

That is really a difficult question, but i think the Bubble Ship from Oblivion movie by Daniel Simon is among the top in my favorite list, it’s not a single artwork, but rather the design itself, everything about it just looks super sleek and functional.

6.What tips would you give to a beginner artist?

Well, i’m also still learning, but i have to say, basics are very very important, things such as perspective, value, composition, these are all the fundamentals that make your art good! Other than that, use reference! The more visual library you have, the better you will be in the design process.

7.What message do you want people to get from your work?

Generally i want people to imagine the future, with all those technology still only exist in our imaginations. I merely sharing my point of view of perhaps what the future might look like. Learn from the past, build to the future!

8.What makes your style different from everyone else?

Perhaps the way i think about how moving objects move, how much function should overcome form.
