Business Cards are a Communication Tool

A business card is indeed to help give your contact info to potential business. It also may seem slightly old school to some newer designers that people still need to use a piece of paper with their contact info to keep track of everyone. Well there is more to this then just contact info. A business card can also be a great communication tool. A well designed business card can help with being memorable and make sure that you get a call back. This means you can either have the same boring business card that everyone else has, or you can do something that will pop and stand out from the crowd.

Think of it this way when you do talk to someone and right then and there you add their contact info; how many times do you just forget about that person? When you have something physical to connect with that person and remind yourself you are more likely to contact that person.

Business Cards can be Triangles

People think that business card just need to be 2.5 inch by 3 inch rectangles on 14 pt paper. The fact is that cards can not only come in many different sizes but also different paper weights. Most people will not know until they have a card that is a heavier weight that it will give the impression of a more premier feel. Also changing the size of your business card from the standard size will help stand out. Also adding elements like spot printing or foil can also add to your first impression.

Think of it this way is that when you meet a client or a potential client for the first time there are three things that will help be memorable. Those three things are:

  1. The way you are dressed
  2. Your personality
  3. Your business card

If you keep those three things in mind there is no reason you should not be able to fail. The thing is though you can not have you without the other. It is kind of like a triangle. You need all three of these to be successful with your first impressions. So if you decide to not use business cards you are only hurting yourself.

Conclusion

Today business cards are not going away. Possibly not even in the near future either. They are not one of those old school business practices that older generations use. They are a way to get and keep a first impression with someone. So when you are thinking of getting a business card make sure you make it the best one your budget will allow.
